This Swine Life: Hog Named 6-7 Spared by Miami Dade County Mayor.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as pardoning holiday birds, but the county's top official had her own presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The event, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, donated by a local firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to open the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Every time, we are honored to observe tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they celebrated Six Seven’s big moment.
