The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Famed for Designing for Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.

The British designer Antony Price, the influential style architect who crafted a series of unforgettable images worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and theatrical styles, such as the light-hued ensembles that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."

Price's death comes shortly after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "dress" historically worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.

A Pioneering Career

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price moved to London at the start of the 1960s to study at the renowned Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he started his work in menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the tight, button-detailed trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger sported during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show opened with looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price designed for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to blend menswear and womenswear along with his masterful technique in shaping sculptural silhouettes made him a "true original," according to the British Fashion Council.

In the 1990s, he started creating ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, such as a number of outfits for her American tour after becoming Duchess.

After a career spanning half a century, Price presented his final runway show in London recently in partnership with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
