John Stones Advanced into midfield on the ball, a familiar role in the past. At times lacked urgency when carrying play and the approach abandoned at half-time. 6/10

Dan Burn A nuisance at set pieces, typically, perhaps is an alternative for Stones in the backline instead of his partner. One wayward ball in the second half almost led to a goal from the visitors. Six

Jude Bellingham Played in a forward position down the right and also contributed with the hard yards. Showed glimpses of brilliance but dragged a shot over. Substituted in the closing stages for a teammate, his rival, after being booked. 7

Jarrod Bowen Had England’s clearest opportunity before halftime, his strike excellently kept out by the Albanian keeper. As a teammate hanging back, it fell to him to stretch the play on the right yet his deliveries into the box were hit and miss. Substituted late in the match. 6/10

The captain The difference-maker with his 77th and 78th finishes in an England shirt. The first a typical poacher’s finish and his next a classy headed goal following a clever run off his defender. Now 32, his form is unwavering and the side are strong contenders next summer with him up top. 8

The attacker Found it tough to make an impact out wide. Had a good opening after being played in from a teammate however Strakosha denied him. His replacement had a greater an impact after coming on. 5/10
